Singer Marcus Mumford Reveals Wife Carey Mulligan Doesn’t Allow ‘Music in the House’

Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford may be two creatives in the entertainment industry, but their home is surprisingly quiet.

Mumford, the lead singer of Mumford & Sons, recently revealed that the couple rarely plays music in their house because he can’t help but stop and listen.

According to the Daily Mail, Mumford explained that a recent guest noticed there was no music playing during a party.

“We had a party – it was Carey’s birthday – and someone was, like, ‘There’s no music!’ I was, like, ‘Yeah, we don’t really play music,'” he recalled.

Mumford explained that the reason behind their no-music rule is his inability to tune it out.

“If music’s on, I want to lean in and listen to it. I can’t switch that part of my brain off. So Carey doesn’t like having music in the house because I just stop having a conversation,” he continued.

The couple’s relationship dates back decades. According to the outlet, Mulligan and Mumford met at camp when she was 12 and he was 10. The pair stayed in touch through letters before losing contact for nearly a decade.

They reconnected years later and tied the knot in 2012. The couple now share three children: Evelyn, 10, Wilfred, 8, and a daughter born in 2023 whose name has not been publicly revealed.

Mulligan has also previously opened up about her early connection with Mumford. During an appearance on the SmartLess podcast, she recalled writing about Mumford in her diary as a child.

“I wrote in my diary that he was the nicest, the kindest person I’d ever met and I gave him 9 1/2 out of 10,” she said, per Daily Mail. “I also wrote in my diary that he definitely wasn’t boyfriend material. I mean not that I’d ever had a boyfriend at that time. But I decided that he was not it.”
