Britney Spears Reportedly Charged With DUI Misdemeanor After Recent Arrest

Britney Spears has reportedly been charged by prosecutors in Ventura County, California, with one count of misdemeanor DUI following her recent arrest.

TMZ reported on Thursday, April 30, that prosecutors will offer Spears a “wet reckless” plea bargain, which would allow her to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs, according to the Ventura County D.A.’s Office.

The “Circus” singer — who entered rehab — will be given this offer during her arraignment on Monday, May 4, the D.A.’s Office reportedly said. It is unclear how Spears intends to plead at this time.

The pop star’s rep confirmed earlier this month that the 44-year-old entered a treatment facility five weeks after she was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol (DUI) in Ventura, California, on March 4.

Following the Grammy Award winner’s arrest last month, she was reportedly released from jail around 6 a.m. on March 5 and transported to the hospital that same morning to have her blood drawn after being pulled over.

It was widely reported that Spears was believed to be under the influence of a “combination of drugs and alcohol” at the time.

The “Gimme More” singer’s family — including sons Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19, as well as ex-husband Kevin Federline, 48 — are said to be supportive of her decision to seek treatment.

Regarding the DUI charge, her manager Cade Hudson told TMZ, “This was an unfortunate and inexcusable incident. Britney will take the right steps, comply with the law, and we hope this marks the start of long-overdue change in her life.”

“She needs help and support during this difficult time,” Hudson added. “Her boys will be spending time with her, and her loved ones are putting a plan in place to set her up for success and well-being.”
