The actress, 56, took to Instagram on Thursday, August 6, to reveal in a video that she is recovering after being involved in a “really bad car accident” while traveling in France.
“Paris update is that I’m actually back in London. I’m sorry about the filter I put on this but honestly without it I just look appalling. Even the dog wouldn’t look at me. I got into a really bad car accident a few days ago with my friend Ben and we somehow walked out of it,” she began.
Driver was in a neck brace and lying in bed while filming the video, with her small dog beside her.
“Well, we didn’t walk out of it, we crawled out of it. But we did get out of it alive. To be very clear, it was not our fault. We were driving on a country road in the middle of France and a car didn’t stop at an intersection and was going at speed and we just t-boned it.”
The Good Will Hunting star said she is still “in shock” and finds herself crying “all the time.” Thankfully, she said she walked away with only a “sprained neck” despite the severity of the accident.

The actress also credited the vehicle she and her friend were driving — a Kia EV2 — with helping save their lives, joking that she was starring in a car commercial.
“The reason I’m not dead, honestly, is the car we were driving. We were in this little tiny Kia EV2. I’ve never been in a crash before but that 360-degree air bags are what saved our lives so that the entire car didn’t just crush us,” she said.
Thanks to the “design of that car,” they survived, she said, calling it “frankly astonishing.”
“I want to celebrate that car. You know, I’m a Minnie Driver, pun intended,” she joked. “I need to celebrate the car that saved us because we’ve got families and people who love us. I am so grateful to be alive. Kia, you are a baller car company. You’re amazing and thanks very much from me and my mate Ben Homewood, and my family and the people who love me.”
