Hilaria Baldwin Shares Rule That Keeps Her and Alec Together After 14 Years of ‘Ups and Our Downs’
After 14 years of marriage to Alec Baldwin, Hilaria Baldwin has learned a thing or two about what it takes to make a relationship last — and she’s sharing the rule she passes along to her friends.
The couple met in February 2011 and tied the knot the following year at the Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral in New York City. Hilaria, 42, has boiled down what she’s learned from her marriage to Alec, 68, to one simple rule. “You both have to want to be there,” she said, according to an article Fox News Digital published on Sunday, August 9.
“Whenever my friends are coming to me, and they’re like it’s a new relationship, or they’re having a bump in it, I say, if both people don’t really want to be there through your difficult moments, through your best moments, then it’s just not going to probably work out,” the Nation’s Dumbest contestant explained.
For Hilaria and Alec, that mutual effort has been the glue. “Both Alec and I, through our ups and our downs and our sideways, we’ve wanted to be there,” she said, the outlet reported. “And I think that that’s what’s kept us strong.”
Of course, finding one-on-one time isn’t always easy for the couple, who have seven young children at home — daughters Carmen, 12, Maria, 5, and Ilaria, 3, and sons Rafael, 11, Leonardo, 9, Romeo, 8, and Eduardo, 5. Alec is also dad to daughter Ireland, 30, whom he shares with ex-wife Kim Basinger; Ireland made Alec a grandfather in 2023 when she welcomed daughter Holland.
“Last night it involved taking our youngest with us to dinner because that’s what it was,” Hilaria, who appeared on season 34 of Dancing with the Stars, said, per the report. “I have a babysitter throughout the day, and then at night, no, so we’re like, we want to go out to dinner. And so, the baby comes with us.”
Hilaria also addressed how she believes the public perceives her. “I want to try everything, I’m curious,” she said. “I feel like if people just kind of looked at me a little bit more of, like, ‘She’s kind of a mess, like a fun mess,’ and like some stuff comes together.”
That same go-with-the-flow attitude appears to carry over into her marriage and family life.
