Ryan Murphy Teases ‘Glee’ Revival More Than 15 Years After Premiere: ‘Maybe We Should Revisit’

Get ready to dust off those Glee playlists! Ryan Murphy is wondering if it might be time to bring the beloved musical series back for a whole new generation.

The co-creator and showrunner of the hit musical comedy-drama, 60, spoke about the idea of rebooting or remaking the Fox series during the New York premiere of his latest limited series, The Shards, on Monday, July 27.

“That show is interesting because it’s come back around. So many young people now watch it. And I’m like, ‘Maybe we should revisit that show,'” Murphy told People. “My nostalgia and love for that show is enough that I’m like, ‘Well, maybe people would like to see a new incarnation of that in some capacity.’ So yeah, I love that show and I loved what it became and what it meant to so many people.”

The original Glee became a pop culture phenomenon, running for six seasons and winning six Emmy Awards.

Its ensemble cast included Lea Michele as ambitious singer Rachel Berry and Cory Monteith as football player-turned-Glee Club star Finn Hudson.

Their characters’ romance, which also spilled over into real life, became one of the show’s central storylines, while their performances helped make the series a sensation.

However, Monteith died in 2013 from a drug overdose.

The cast also included Jane Lynch, who won an Emmy for her role as Sue Sylvester.

Reflecting on the making of the show, Murphy described the experience as both “the best time” and “the worst time” of his life, recalling infighting, romances and breakups among the cast.

“We all got too personal,” he admitted.
