PresidentDonald Trump once again sounded off on his distaste for Jimmy Kimmel, addressing the late-night comedian’s joke about First Lady Melania Trump on his show.
Donald, 79, spoke with Greta Van Susteren on her Newsmax show on Thursday, April 30, where she mistakenly said Kimmel, 58, apologized before asking the president if he accepted that apology.
“I haven’t heard him apologize, but he’s a lowlife. Whether he apologized or not, he’s a lowlife,” Donald answered. “He always has been. He shouldn’t be on television.”
“I don’t know how a guy can be on television where the network gets free airwaves from the United States government and spend 100 percent of his time knocking Republicans and conservatives and Trump 100 percent of his time,” the Apprentice alum continued. “It’s not supposed to work that way. You know, equal time provisions.”

Donald’s reference to the FCC’s equal time rule does not apply to what a network or late-night host says about a particular public figure. It’s a provision that ensures candidates running for political office get equal access to network television time. Regardless, the president ended his statement on Kimmel by implying that ABC is putting itself “in great jeopardy.”
The joke in question happened on Wednesday, April 23, when Kimmel did a fake, alternative White House Correspondents’ Dinner in which he joked that Melania, 56, had “a glow like an expectant widow.” Both the first lady and the president issued statements demanding Kimmel be fired in light of the shooting that took place at the actual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner two days after Kimmel’s joke aired.

While he did not apologize, Kimmel did address the situation on his show, saying the statement “obviously was a joke about their age difference and the look of joy we see on her face every time they’re together.”
“It was a very light roast joke about the fact that [Donald] is almost 80 and she’s younger than I am,” Kimmel added. “It was not by any stretch of the definition a call to assassination, and they know that I’ve been very vocal for many years speaking out against gun violence in particular.”
