Princess Diana‘s brother Charles Spencer is promising to set the record straight on “untruths” about the late royal in a revealing new memoir.
The 9th Earl Spencer, 62, has written Swan Song, which will explore Diana’s childhood, her turbulent 15-year marriage to then-Prince Charles and the aftermath of her tragic death in a Paris car crash in August 1997, according to the Daily Mail.
With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death approaching in 2027, Spencer says the constant requests to speak about his sister convinced him it was finally time to tell the story himself.

“I’ve been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister,” he announced, via Daily Mail. “This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time.”
Spencer said his aim is to “tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective,” comparing the book to his famously defiant eulogy at her 1997 funeral.
“As with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana’s behalf and do so in an openly positive way,” he explained.
During that address at Westminster Abbey, Spencer vowed that Diana’s “blood family” would help protect her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, so their lives would not be consumed by royal “duty and tradition,” likely a dig at the royal family.

But Harry, 41, later revealed that behind the scenes, tensions were already running high over how the young princes should be involved in their mother’s funeral. In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry recalled his uncle fiercely objecting to the decision for the brothers, then 15 and 12, to walk behind Diana’s coffin, describing the idea as “barbaric.”
Spencer now hopes Swan Song will introduce a new generation to the sister he remembers as a “one-off, dynamic character, full of love, charisma and self-doubt.”
The memoir is set to be published September 22, 2027.
