He’s won several awards for playing Carmy in The Bear, but according to Jeremy Allen White, portraying The Boss garnered a reaction he didn’t see coming.
On Thursday, June 27, White, 34, stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to dish on the highly anticipated fourth season of The Bear. Of course, Fallon, 50, couldn’t help but ask about the trailer for Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, which went viral after dropping on Wednesday, June 18.
“Getting that out, you know, it was so much pressure,” the actor — who portrays a young Bruce Springsteen as he recorded his sixth studio album, Nebraska — admitted. “You’re playing a real person, nevermind Bruce Springsteen, and I was really touched [when] the trailer came out.”
“I had more texts than when I blacked out and won that Golden Globe,” White — who took home the award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2023, 2024 and 2025 for his role in The Bear — continued. “I didn’t realize trailers were that big of a thing.”
“But yeah, I’m breathing easy, people were really nice about the trailer,” White added. “I’m excited.”

As Star previously reported, the trailer for the biopic features the Shameless alum performing Springsteen’s 1975 single “Born to Run” — and many fans praised the actor for belting out one of the musician’s biggest hits in the way it deserves.
In January, Springsteen confirmed White sings himself in the film, and he even gave his stamp of approval. “He sings well, he sings very well,” the “Dancing in the Dark” singer shared during an interview on SiriusXM’s E Street Radio.
Though White has been mostly tight-lipped about the film ahead of its Oct. 24 release, Springsteen has openly admitted he had a “fun” and “enjoyable” experience watching the movie come to life.
“Jeremy Allen White was very, very tolerant of me the days that I would appear on the set,” he told Rolling Stone in a story published June 19. “I said to him, ‘Look, anytime I’m in the way, just give me the look and I’m on my way home.’”
During his appearance on The Tonight Show, White also marveled about The Bear’s success. “It’s wild, we made this show with very little expectations, you know, there were no movie stars in it,” he explained to Fallon. “On paper, it was a show about a sandwich shop, you know?”
“It just blew up, and it’s gotten more and more popular,” he added. “We’re very, very lucky.”
