King Charles and Prince William’s Rift Is the Talk of the Palace: ‘Everyone Can See the Divide Widening’

Prince William‘s feud with Prince Harry used to keep Princess Kate up at night, but now it’s the “growing animosity” between him and King Charles III that has her “distressed,” a source tells Star.

“It’s become one of the main topics of conversation around the palace, and everyone can see the divide widening,” the source reveals. “Of course, Kate isn’t going to disrespect or undermine William, but at the same time, Charles is her father-in-law, whom she loves dearly.”

Charles, 77, and Kate, 44, both went public with their cancer diagnoses in 2024 — and while the Princess of Wales has since announced that she’s in remission, the monarch is still battling the disease.

“She keeps encouraging William to go easy on him,” says the source. “She understands why he’s frustrated by the decisions his father has made … but she doesn’t believe his anger is helping the situation.”

As Star previously reported, Kate has played a key role in helping Harry, 41, and Charles find a way forward, but William, 44, is still opposed to his brother rejoining the royal family.

“She’s such a peacemaker by nature, so her first instinct was to try and intervene,” notes the source. “But it’s not helped and she’s reached the point where she has had to accept that this isn’t something she can fix.”

And it’s begun to take a toll.

“Being caught in the middle has become emotionally exhausting, and the fact is things have gotten so explosive, anything she does risks making things worse,” says the source. “All she can do now is hope they eventually find their own way back to each other.”
