Christine Taylor Recalls Being Held at Gunpoint During ‘Scary’ ’90s Carjacking

Christine Taylor has recalled the frightening moment she was carjacked at gunpoint in broad daylight.

The Zoolander star, 55, was living with her Blossom costar David Pressman, 60, in Los Angeles in the ’90s when the terrifying incident occurred.

“We lived together for many years and we got carjacked together in broad daylight,” Taylor said while speaking on the We’re Still Here, Babe podcast on Wednesday, September 16. “You talk about mental health … for me, that incident, it was three in the afternoon and it was on Detroit Street near Beverly Boulevard and we lived in an apartment there and we got carjacked at gunpoint.”

She added that a “car slowed down,” and it didn’t trigger any alarm bells.

“But it was three in the afternoon! Bright sunshine!” the Brady Bunch star explained. “And the guy in the passenger seat got out with a gun and waved to David to stay on the curb and told me to give him the keys.”

Taylor – who has been married to fellow Hollywood star Ben Stiller, 60, since 2000 – was left terrified by the traumatic experience, but she was “so grateful” she and Pressman weren’t harmed.

“I had my purse on my shoulder, and I just remember thinking, like, ‘Don’t go for the purse, just take the car. Just in my head.’ And then, of course, he said, ‘Leave the purse,'” she explained. “It probably all happened in the span of a minute and a half or two minutes, but it felt like time stood still. It was so scary.”

Just days later, Taylor landed a part in 1994 horror movie Night of the Demons 2, and she says shooting the film was a “therapeutic experience”, because she started to process the frightening carjacking incident.

She added, “The silver lining of it was that at the time I had been auditioning for a really bad … well, I didn’t think it was the time … it didn’t turn out the best, but it was a horror movie called Night of the Demons 2 that I had been auditioning for.

“I ended up a day or two after the carjacking getting cast in that movie.”

Taylor and Stiller separated in 2017 before reuniting after growing close again during the coronavirus lockdown.

In June, she said on The McBride Rewind podcast, “We came out of it and have been really stronger and better than ever.”
