Prince Harry Reveals He Felt a ‘Disconnection’ After Wife Meghan Markle Gave Birth to Son Archie
Prince Harry opens up about fatherhood and mental health at Movember event in Australia, sharing how therapy helped him prepare for parenthood and his advice for new dads.
Prince Harry is getting candid about how fatherhood played a role in his mental health journey.
On Wednesday, April 15, the Duke of Sussex, 41 — who is currently in Australia with wife Meghan Markle — spoke at an event for the Australian charity Movember, which is focused on men’s mental health, according to People.
The Spare author, who chatted with Movember’s global director of men’s health research, Dr. Zac Seidler, revealed that when the With Love, Meghan host, 44, gave birth to their first child, Prince Archie, in 2019, he felt a “disconnection,” explaining, “My wife was the one creating life, and I was there to witness it,” per People.

Ahead of the baby’s arrival, the Invictus Games founder said he sought therapy, and his provider told him to “just be aware of how you feel once the baby is born.”
“Certainly from a therapy standpoint, you want to be the best version of yourself for your kids,” Harry remarked. “And I knew that I had stuff from the past that I needed to deal with and therefore, prepare myself to basically cleanse myself of the past.”
Additionally, Harry — who also shares Princess Lilibet, 4, with Meghan — noted fathers are “not alone” in their parenting journey.

“To the dads and soon-to-be dads: yes, it’s messy,” he confessed. “You’ll have a roller coaster of emotions — and don’t judge yourself.”
Harry also said that certain conversations he’s having today “never existed” for him and his parents, King Charles III and Princess Diana, People reported.
“The kids that we bring up in today’s world need to be an upgrade [from the generation before],” he added.
