Prince Harry Makes Pointed Statement About ‘American Leadership’ Amid War in Ukraine

Prince Harry made a surprise visit to Ukraine, where he delivered an address at the Kyiv Security Forum on Thursday, April 23.

During the Duke of Sussex’s remarks, the 41-year-old addressed political leaders, particularly those in the United States — without directly calling out President Donald Trump — and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

The father of two called for Putin, 73, to ​end the war in Ukraine and for U.S. leaders to help resolve the conflict.

Addressing Putin directly, Harry said, “No nation benefits from the continued loss of life we are witnessing. There is still a moment now to stop this war, to prevent further suffering for Ukrainians and Russians alike and to choose a different course.”

“Years into this war, with immense losses and limited gains, it is increasingly clear that this path offers no victory, only more loss,” Harry continued. “The cost continues to rise with no outcome that justifies the human toll.”

In February 2022, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the largest conflict in Europe since World War II.

Harry pointed out that, throughout the war, there has been “extraordinary support “across Europe and beyond.”

He then called on the United States, saying that the country has “a singular role in this story, not only because of its power, but because when Ukraine gave up nuclear weapons, America was part of the assurance that Ukraine’s sovereignty and borders would be respected.”

“This is a moment for American leadership, a moment for America to show that it can honor its international treaty obligations, not out of charity, but out of its own enduring role in global security and strategic stability,” he said.

During Harry’s visit to Ukraine, he is expected to visit the HALO Trust charity and meet Ukrainian participants of the Invictus Games ​Foundation, according to Reuters (via Britain’s ITV).

Harry’s appearance in Ukraine comes ahead of King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s upcoming state visit to the United States, which is set to take place next week.

According to Buckingham Palace, Charles and Camilla will “celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence” during their upcoming trip.

Following their visit to America, the pair will then continue to Bermuda to “undertake His Majesty’s first Royal Visit as Monarch to a British Overseas Territory.”
