Nick Jonas and his wife, Priyanka Chopra, faced a challenging few months after the birth of their first child.
On the Wednesday, February 4 episode of the Jay Shetty Podcast, the singer, 33, opened up about his and Chopra’s daughter, Malti, now 4, being born prematurely.
“She came to the world under sort of very intense circumstances, which I’ve not really talked about ever,” the Jonas Brothers band member remarked. “She came out, she was one pound, 11 ounces, and purple basically. These angels at the NICU kind of resuscitated her in that moment, got her taken care of really quickly, and intubated and everything else.”
Because Malti was born amid the COVID-19 pandemic in January 2022, Jonas explained that he and the actress, 43, each took 12-hour shifts in the NICU.

“I could still sort of like, smell it, you know, there’s always visceral things,” he recalled. “It was both comforting and frightening to be there every day and to see sort of other families going through similar situations.”
The musician said that he and the Citadel star leaned on each other during this trying time and “had a lot of tough conversations day in, day out about caring” for Malti. Jonas went on to praise his wife’s strength on the podcast.
“The way in which she handled it was so inspiring to me, and you know, allowing for those days to be tough, but to be tougher for our little girl was the focus,” he stated.
After undergoing six blood transfusions and gaining weight in the hospital, Malti eventually got to go home after three and half months.
