Princess Kate apparently recovered ever-so gracefully when she was once asked if she is the assistant to her husband, Prince William.
According to a Thursday, May 14, report in Hello!, the Princess of Wales was mistaken for the hired help during the couple’s visit to Cardiff’s Shire Hall Care Home in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kate, 44, and William, 43, were greeting residents at the assisted living facility when they sat down with Joan Drew-Smith, whom they previously played bingo with.
“Hello Joan, do you remember we did the bingo with you?” the Prince of Wales asked. “You said we weren’t very good!”
Then, according to Hello!, the royals — who were wearing masks to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus — were asked, “Is [she] your assistant?”

Kate apparently brushed it off, laughing as she replied, “Well I am your assistant! I have been for a long time!”
Her husband later reportedly told the staff, “I love Joan, she’s brilliant. If only everyone was as honest as her.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales were married on April 29, 2011. The future king and queen share three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8.
Kate was recently in Italy, marking her first overseas work visit since she was diagnosed with cancer and eventually announced that she is in remission.
“Over the past two days in Reggio Emilia, I have seen first hand the power of nature and creativity that put human connection at the centre of a child’s world,” she wrote in an X post shared Thursday. “I have had such a deeply moving and unforgettable time here.”
“Thank you to the people of Reggio Emilia for welcoming me into a culture of care with such warmth and generosity,” she added. “Our collective work in early childhood must be to protect and nurture the connections that form the foundations of life-long wellbeing. Grazie di cuore, C.”
