Prince William and Princess Kate are celebrating a major milestone — their youngest child, Prince Louis, just turned 8!
The Prince and Princess of Wales marked Louis’ birthday on Thursday, April 23, by sharing never-before-seen footage and a brand-new portrait of their little one on Instagram.
In the playful video, Louis was spotted digging in the sand with a shovel, sprinting toward the water and taking a dip in a wetsuit — looking every bit the adventurous royal fans have come to love. “Thank you for all the birthday wishes for Prince Louis,” William, 43, and Kate, 44, captioned the social media post. “8 is great!”

Earlier that same day, the couple posted a sweet new portrait of Louis posing on a boat with his arms crossed with a big grin, dressed in a blue half-zip pullover on Instagram.
While Kate is typically the one behind the camera for her children’s birthday photos, she confirmed in the comments of the post that this year’s shots were taken by photographer Matt Porteous.
As Star has previously reported, the birthday boy has earned a well-deserved reputation as the cheekiest member of the royal family, routinely stealing the spotlight at major public events. At King Charles‘ coronation in May 2023, the young royal was caught on camera yawning and in 2022, he was caught covering his ears during the flypast at Queen Elizabeth II‘s Platinum Jubilee.

Louis might be fourth in line for the throne, but when it comes to stealing the show, he’s already king. More recently, his antics were on display during the family’s Christmas walk at Sandringham in December 2025 when he snatched a massive Lindt chocolate right out of his dad’s hands, sending William into a fit of laughter, according to a Page Six report.
