Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Likely to Sell $14 Million Montecito Mansion for the ‘Right Offer’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have got bills coming out of their ears right now, and they’re only adding to them with their upcoming move back to England, a source tells Star.

“It’s going to cost them a small fortune, so it’s hard for people to imagine that they’ll be able to sustainably keep this house,” the source says of their $14 million Montecito, Calif., mansion. “There’s already an awful lot of talk [that it] will be up for grabs very soon, if not already.”

Ahead of their U.K. return, Harry, 41, and Meghan, 45, have secured a non-royal residence outside of London, according to a report from The Sun published on Wednesday, August 19. The couple also own a vacation home in Portugal, as Star previously reported.

“If the right offer comes in, [selling their Montecito estate] could solve a lot of their problems,” admits the source. “Until then, they’re going to have all the costs that come with the house, from the massive mortgage payments and property taxes to the maintenance, the staff, and all the other standing bills.”

Even if the Sussexes do ultimately sell, “they will still have to keep everything running and take care of the property until that happens,” the source notes.

Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland “can help them to some extent,” says the source. “But she’s a busy woman with her own life two hours away in L.A. She can’t be running over to the house at the drop of the hat.”

The duke and duchess’ decision “will depend on how this stint in the U.K. goes,” the source explains. “But most people are predicting they will unload their Montecito mansion.”
