Meghan Markle allegedly struggled to hire housekeepers for her and Prince Harry‘s Montecito mansion because some prospective employees found her “snobbish and rude,” according to a new report.
The As Ever founder, 45, and the Spare author, 41, are moving their home base from California back to the U.K. after enrolling their children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, in British schools starting in September, as Star previously reported.
Amid their plans to leave Montecito, a source claimed Meghan personally interviewed prospective housekeepers and rubbed some candidates the wrong way.
“She had trouble hiring maids because a lot of the housekeepers in Montecito didn’t want to work for them,” the source alleged to Page Six. “Meghan would interview people herself and could come across as really snobbish and rude. Some of them were so offended by the way she spoke to them that word started getting around. It got to the point where people would joke that all the maids in Montecito hated them.”

The report comes after the Sussexes experienced several departures from their communications team in 2025.
According to Hello!, Kyle Boulia, the couple’s Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary, and their U.K. press officer Charlie Gipson both left their positions in June 2025. Two other members of their team also reportedly departed.
As Star previously reported, a source told Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack that “Harry knows Britain, but he doesn’t know British real estate.
“He’s never had to think about neighborhoods, privacy, security or whether a house actually works for his family. Those decisions were always made around him,” the source said. “Harry knows how to live in a palace, but finding a normal house is completely different. Ellen and Portia de Rossi gave him the real-world education nobody in the royal family ever had to.”
DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, moved from California to the U.K. in 2024, settling in the Cotswolds.
