On Tuesday, August 11, the Mirror reported that the Princess of Wales, 44, is set to join her husband, also 44, in Mumbai, India for the 2026 Earthshot Prize ceremony in November.
“This India trip is bound to spark more competition because it’s no secret Meghan has been pushing to do a big trip there with Harry,” reveals the source. “The fact that William’s decided to host the next Earthshot there and Kate’s now planning to go with him is bound to touch a nerve with Meghan.”
As is the timing.

“It’ll be a bit of a blow that she and Harry didn’t manage to make it happen ahead of them, particularly because India was a place where Princess Diana had such a profound impact,” the source admits. “And with the 30th anniversary [of her death] coming up, all eyes are going to be on anything they do that’s even remotely related to the late princess.”
Diana famously posed for a photo alone in front of the Taj Mahal in 1992, an image which came to symbolize her crumbling marriage to then-Prince Charles. Four years later, William and Harry, 41, tragically lost their mother, who died at the age of 36 following a car crash in Paris.
Daughter-in-laws Kate and Meghan, 45, “both seem keen to recreate Diana’s legacy, which is lovely,” notes the source. “No one would deprive them of celebrating her, but it does sometimes seem as though they’re trying to outdo each other in the process. Certainly, that’s the suspicion among some royals, who are whispering that Meghan is going overboard lately.”
