Former ‘Supernanny’ Star Jo Frost Issues Dire Warning About the Affect of Social Media on Children
Jo Frost, known from Supernanny, urges UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to ban social media for kids under 16, citing harmful effects on children’s development.
She gained fame as the ultra-competent caretaker on Supernanny. Now, 17 years after her show left the air, Jo Frost is still advocating for children.
In a passionate April 15 Instagram clip, the 55-year-old London native called on British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to follow countries like Australia and ban social media for kids under age 16. “You are a father of two children, so you know what it is to protect them,” she said.

Known for her kind but firm way with children — including placing misbehaving tots on a “naughty chair” — a visibly emotional Jo lamented social media’s effect on them. Fast-moving content aimed at toddlers affects their “ability to sit and simply connect,” she complained, while older kids and teens “are being poured into a world of comparison and exposure and influence.” Addressing Starmer directly, she said, “Prime Minister, sir, this is a defining moment for you.”
