Supernanny alum Jo Frost got candid about her daily battle with severe allergies as she encouraged others to learn more and move with empathy when it comes to the unique circumstances others may face with their health.
“I’ve survived more anaphylactic shocks than I’m prepared to go into detail about right now,” Frost, 55, shared in a video via Instagram on Friday, July 11. “I have anaphylaxis, a life-threatening medical condition to certain foods that will compromise my body so horrifically to the point of hospitalization.”
The Allergy & Asthma Network describes anaphylaxis as an allergic reaction that “can cause death in less than 15 minutes.” It can lead to the narrowing of the airway restricting breathing, as well as nausea, vomiting, hives, stomach pain and more. Anaphylaxis is generally treated with a shot of epinephrine and it is encouraged that those experiencing symptoms “seek prompt treatment” at the emergency room.
“Absolute millions of my community around the world, children and adults, live cautiously and anxiously navigating this journey with not nearly enough compassion, education and empathy from those who do not,” she explained. “If you ignore the severity of this medical condition, it’s as bad as shoving a loaded gun in my face.”
Frost pointed out that her health condition doesn’t “define” who she is or the “impact” she makes on the world. However, it does consistently affect how she lives her life, to include the “precautions” she must take on a regular basis and the “energy that I have to use to discern” potentially dangerous situations “with hypervigilance.”

She also urged companies, schools, restaurants and other facilities to update their policies and properly educate their staff so that people with conditions like hers can feel safer as they navigate their day-to-day life.
“Get curious and learn more, because really, as mentioned before, we all know someone,” Frost concluded.
Additionally, the television personality thanked her parents in the caption to the video, commending them for giving her “the tools and confidence to stand tall” so that she can do the same for others.
Fans swiftly took to the comments section to offer words of love and support for the reality star as they shared their own experiences with anaphylaxis and other serious health concerns.
“Someone needed to say it. Thank you for speaking out and using your platform to protect children like my son,” one Instagram user wrote.
A second fan chimed in, “The way you spoke through this was so powerful. I know from lived experience the hardships and s**t times a medical condition can dump upon us, but as you can see in this video you move through it with strength, dignity and courage.”
