Britney Spears’ attorney appeared in Ventura County Superior Court on her behalf, entering a guilty plea to a reduced charge connected to her March 4 DUI arrest.
On Monday, May 4, Page Six reported that the “Baby One More Time” singer, 44, was not in attendance because she was not required to appear, according to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office.
During the hearing, her lawyer accepted a “wet reckless” plea deal, a lesser charge tied to reckless driving involving alcohol or drugs. The reduction is commonly offered in cases involving first-time offenders, lower blood alcohol levels, and situations where no crash or injuries occurred.
Spears was sentenced to one year of informal probation and is required to complete 30 hours of alcohol school, according to the publication.
“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” the Crossroads star’s lawyer, Michael Goldstein, said in a statement to Page Six. “She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI. Britney appreciates this discretion and is also grateful for the outpouring of support she has received.”
“This was her own choice,” a source told Page Six at the time. “This isn’t about one substance in particular, it has a dual purpose. This is about Britney putting her mental health first and taking some time for herself to focus on the things that are important to her.”
While many initially thought the pop star would be staying at the facility for a minimum of 90 days, she was seen on April 30 after leaving the treatment center.
