Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have been building a sprawling new home, but not everyone working on the project has been properly compensated.
On Tuesday, May 19, the Daily Mail reported that the A-list couple has “$2.1 million in unpaid contractor debt” on the 110-acre estate they are building in South Salem, a town in Westchester County, New York.
The A Simple Favor actress, 38, and the Deadpool star, 49 — who share daughters James, 11, Inez, 9, Betty, 6, and son Olin, 3 — purchased the property in 2018, and construction stopped in December 2025 or early 2026, per Daily Mail.

The outlet obtained Westchester County filings, which reveal that “five separate contractors and subcontractors filed mechanic’s liens against the property in April 2026 totaling a staggering $2,108,856.63.”
According to a filing reviewed by the outlet, the largest lien was for $1,356,157.54 from FlowCon Inc. (Flower Construction), as “the company was hired to complete construction which included framing, HVAC systems, plumbing, electrical work, drywall, masonry, waterproofing, painting and millwork.”
During a 2022 town planning board hearing, the Gossip Girl alum said she “wanted to ‘honor the history of the property” and asked for approval to build a “substantial size pool house and gym,” per Daily Mail.
“We love this land so much,” she gushed. “We’re so grateful to have this land and to have such space and such privacy.”

As Star previously reported, Lively has been in a costly legal battle over the film It Ends With Us, as she sued her costar and director Justin Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios in December 2024 for sexual harassment, defamation, and other claims.
However, a judge threw out 10 of her 13 claims in April 2026, including all the ones specifically against the Jane the Virgin star, 42. Lively settled with Wayfarer Studios in May, with the terms being kept private.
Star reported on Friday, May 15, that Lively and Baldoni reportedly spent a combined $60 million on legal fees. Lively is currently seeking legal fees from Baldoni related to his countersuit against her.
