Dannielynn Birkhead showed off a brand new look at the Barnstable Brown Derby Eve Gala on Friday, May 1, and her dad Larry Birkhead told People the change is all about the 19-year-old “coming into her own.”
The daughter of the late Anna Nicole Smith rocked a floor-length, strapless black dress from Punk Rave Clothing and short platinum blonde hair with black tips. In a post on their shared Instagram account, Larry, 53, wrote that Dannielynn called the style “goth-rock,” and that she convinced him to partake in the fun with a matching bedazzled blazer with lightning bolts on it. “She insisted I get in on the theme with my Phillipp Plein jacket.”

Attending the gala and the Kentucky Derby the next day is an annual tradition for the father-daughter duo, dating back to 2010, when she was just three years old. But in an interview with Access Hollywood, Larry hinted that the tradition may come to an end after this year.
“I met her mom at the Derby and the Barnstable Brown party,” said the photographer, noting that attending the event feels like a way to “keep Anna’s memory and spirit alive in my heart.” He then went on to explain that because Dannielynn is getting older—and because the event falls at the same time as final exam week—“we don’t know if we’re gonna do it again ever. This could be the end of our photo book.”

Dannielynn and Larry have not publicly revealed where she attends college, but last year, Larry told People the teen was “getting ready to start college” but wanted to keep the details private.
As for whether they may resume their annual Kentucky Derby outing after graduation, Larry said, “never say never,” but joked, “we’re out of colors and ideas.”
