Whether you’re planning a spring getaway or eyeing a dream destination for the summer, travel doesn’t have to mean chaos, delays, or overpriced experiences. According to two seasoned experts, the key to a smooth, elevated trip isn’t necessarily a bigger budget — it’s smarter planning.

Jordi Lippe-McGraw, founder of PAK Rêve Travel, dedicated to helping families explore the world with confidence through expert advice, curated experiences, and travel products designed for real life on the road, is a globe-trotting mom who visited all seven continents with her son before he turned seven. She says a little strategy goes a long way toward stress-free luxury.

“Book smarter, not earlier,” Lippe-McGraw says. “Set price alerts and stay flexible by a day or two. Even small shifts can unlock better flights and smoother travel days.” She’s also a fan of maximizing rewards systems, using tools like Seats.aero to snag lie-flat seats or nonstop flights with credit card points. “This is how families score premium seats without paying cash prices.”

She also advises choosing not just the right hotel, but the right room. “Connecting rooms, family suites, or club-level floors often include breakfast and snacks, which feels quietly luxe with kids.” She also recommends pre-booking what she calls “the annoying stuff,” like airport transfers, skip-the-line tickets, and must-do reservations. “It means less friction once you arrive.”

Another of her go-to hacks is what she calls a “first-hour kit” — a single bag stocked with snacks, chargers, pajamas, swimsuits, and toiletries. “It makes arrivals (and delays) so much easier,” she says. Add in lounge access, priority security, or just one elevated experience, and the journey itself becomes part of the joy. “Upgrade the journey, not everything.”

As for what happens when the trip ends? “Plan for the return home,” Lippe-McGraw says. “Services like Proxy by Peacock Parent can handle groceries, unpacking, and home setup so you walk back into calm — not chaos.”

Amy West, founder of Amy West Travel, agrees that the path to a luxe experience often starts before you even hit the road.

“Book nonstop flights whenever possible to reduce delays and stress,” she says. She recommends setting fare alerts, choosing flight times that align with your energy levels — not just your budget — and using points strategically for seat upgrades or lounge access.

West swears by carry-on-only travel to save time and avoid fees. “Packing cubes or compression bags help you stay organized and save space,” she says, and building outfits around a neutral color palette ensures everything mixes and matches. She always packs a lightweight foldable tote for souvenirs or overflow on the return trip.

For airport and flight efficiency, she advises checking in online, enrolling in TSA PreCheck or Global Entry, and keeping tech gear consolidated. Comfort is also a priority: “Dress in breathable layers and carry a small essentials kit with lip balm, eye drops, and hand cream,” she says.

Pre-booking airport rides avoids arrival chaos once you reach your destination, and downloading hotel info and directions ahead of time helps if Wi-Fi is spotty. She encourages using local apps or hotel concierges for experiences — and making space for splurges where they count.

“Request room upgrades politely at check-in, especially during off-peak times,” she says. “Opt for experiences over things — private tours, early access, or local guides.”

West agrees with Lippe-McGraw on setting yourself up for a smoother re-entry. “Schedule grocery delivery or meal prep before returning,” she says. “Unpack immediately and reset your space.” A glow-up trip doesn’t have to end with jet lag and laundry.

West’s final pro tip? “Keep a running list of what you used — and what you didn’t — for next time.”
