Sister Wives’ Christine Brown Reveals She and Kody are Blood ‘Related,’ Says They’re Distant ‘Cousins’
Christine Brown is connected to her ex Kody Brown in more ways than one.
On the Sunday, December 28, episode of Sister Wives, Christine, 53, revealed that she and Kody, 56 — who were spiritually married from 1994 to 2021 — are actually distant cousins.
“I knew growing up that I would have to marry a convert because I was literally related to everybody in the church,” Christine admitted in her confessional while sitting next to her new husband, David Woolley. “I did marry a convert, but I was still related to him, too.”
Woolley was seemingly caught off guard as he blurted out, “What?”
“Yeah, I’m related to Kody,” Christine told him, to which he replied, “That’s not cool.”
“Third cousins once removed is fully legal. Fully. Polygamy is not legal,” Christine stated. “I’m third cousins once removed from Kody.”
Janelle Brown — who was spiritually married to Kody from 1993 to 2022 — also weighed in on the fact that Kody and Christine are blood-related.
“There was always this joke about [how] they were cousins, but they are so distantly related it’s ridiculous,” Janelle, 56, told cameras. “I think in polygamist families, this kind of stuff happens all the time.”
“It wasn’t the kind of relationship where, like, you saw each other at the family reunion, like, it was a very distant relationship,” she added. “But they would always joke about being cousins. It just is a small community.”
As Star previously reported, Janelle also shares an interesting connection with Kody, as her mother, Sheryl Usher, was actually married to Kody’s father, Winn Brown — making them step-siblings.
“My mom came to save me from the polygamists because no daughter of hers was going to marry into some crazy cult, and she ended up marrying Kody’s dad, and they actually got married three months before we did,” Janelle recalled on the Sunday, November 30, episode of the hit TLC show.
“It was a little weird at first, but I’m like, ‘OK, it’s great. Somebody’s here with me,'” she noted.
