Savannah Guthrie will no longer host the opening ceremony for the 2026 Winter Olympics following news that her mother, Nancy Guthrie, has been reported missing.
Page Six reported Monday, February 2, that the 54-year-old Today anchor, who had been scheduled to cohost the ceremony with Terry Gannon, stepped away from the role as she adjusts her plans. Guthrie had originally planned to also stay in Italy for a week and host Today from there alongside her former cohost Hoda Kotb.
“There is no way Savannah will be there,” an NBC source told the outlet.
On Sunday, February 1, news broke that Guthrie’s mom had been reported missing earlier in the day by a family member. Nancy, 84, was last seen at her home in Catalina Foothills, Arizona, the night prior. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos described Nancy’s home as a “crime scene” and said officials believe she did not leave the property on her own.

Guthrie was not present during Monday’s episode of Today, but Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin were covering the situation, which they called “deeply personal.” However, Guthrie released a statement which was read aloud during the episode.
“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers and messages of support. Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom,” the statement read. “We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900.”
A source told the National Enquirer that Guthrie was struggling with the situation and that she “is absolutely devastated — beside herself and fearing the worst.”
“She’s trying to be strong, but this has shattered her,” the source continued. “The Dateline NBC team immediately offered help. Producers and researchers stepped up without being asked. NBC has put its full weight behind her. This is total institutional support, from the very top down. No hesitation.”
