Prince William and Princess Kate celebrated son Prince Louis‘ eighth birthday by sharing rare glimpses of their youngest child in two tributes posted on Instagram.

An official portrait featured a toothy Louis smiling and casually posing in front of the water while a video showed the carefree child enjoying a fun day at the beach. Louis has earned quite a reputation for being cheeky — he nearly stole the show at both the late Queen Elizabeth‘s Platinum Jubilee and 2022’s Trooping the Colour with his silly expressions — but according to proud dad William, it’s par for the course.

“He’s a character, but he’s a very good boy,” the future king, 43, also dad to Prince George, 12, and Princess Charlotte, 10, once confided, per Daily Mail. “He likes to wind his brother and sister up.”
