Prince Harry Shares Emotional Testimony in Court, Says Meghan Markle’s Life Was ‘an Absolute Misery’

Prince Harry delivered an emotional testimony in London on Wednesday, January 21, insisting Meghan Markle’s past life as a working royal had been “absolute misery” as he faced off with a major U.K. tabloid publisher.

Harry, 41, is suing Associated Newspapers Limited — the parent company of the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday — accusing the company of illegally gathering private information, per Hello!. Taking the stand at the High Court, the Duke of Sussex grew emotional as his lawyer, David Sherborne, questioned him about the toll the years-long battle had taken.

“It’s fundamentally wrong to put us through this again when all we wanted was an apology and accountability,” Harry said, fighting back tears. “They continue to come after me. They have made my wife’s life an absolute misery, my Lord.”

Harry dated Megan for two years before the duo wed in May 2018. They eventually ditched their royal responsibilities by fleeing the U.K. in 2020. The Spare author also described the case as a “recurring traumatic experience,” blasting the idea that his life is “open season” for tabloids to exploit. Harry also revisited how past press intrusion impacted former girlfriend Chelsy Davy.

A spokesperson for the prince later told Page Six that ANL’s cross-examination “collapsed under scrutiny,” while Harry added: “Today we reminded the Mail Group who is on trial and why.”
