Carrie Underwood might seem to live a charmed life. She sold more than 65 million records worldwide. She’s recently celebrated eight years of marriage with husband Mike Fisher. The couple have an adorable son, Isaiah, 3. But in a new interview she’s opening up about her terrible 2017. Click through the gallery to hear why she’s calling it her “off year.”

She told the magazine, “A lot happened in 2017 during my ‘off year.’” While she didn’t release anything new, she was working on her new album, Cry Pretty, released this April.

“It was also a very soul-searching year for me,” the "Before He Cheats" singer said.

“There were some personal things that happened. And I had the accident and all of that to get through ... and just life. Life is full of ups and downs, and I might have had a few more downs than ups last year.”

She was also worried about what her face was going to look like after the accident. “It was also a perception thing, because I look at myself [now] and I see it quite a bit, but other people are like, ‘
I wouldn't have even noticed.’ Nobody else looks at you as much as you think they do. Nobody notices as much as you think they will, so that's been nice to learn.”

She also noted that she thinks she’s missed her chance to have more kids, biologically. “I'm 35, so we may have missed our chance to have a big family,” she said. But she and Mike,
a former hockey player, are open to adoption.
