The son of a Hollywood legend, Rob Reiner was sympathetic to his son Nick’s struggle with being overshadowed by a parent. And when that struggle led the 32-year-old’s downward spiral into drug abuse, Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, sent him to rehab multiple times and offered him a place in the guesthouse of their $13 million Brentwood home in L.A. But on the night of Dec. 13, the beloved When Harry Met Sally… director and his son reportedly clashed at a star-studded holiday party they attended with Michele, 70, at Conan O’Brien’s Pacific Palisades home. Nick was reportedly “freaking out” guests such as Bill Hader by asking whether they were famous. A witness told Daily Mail Nick, dressed in a scruffy hoody, was “acting crazy.”

Hours later, Rob, 78, and Michele were discovered dead in bed by their daughter Romy, 27, reportedly with their throats slit. Nick — whose descent into cocaine and heroin addiction and mental health issues that sometimes left him homeless was depicted in Being Charlie, a film he made with his dad — was soon arrested. (Michele and Rob were also parents to Jack, 34; Rob had a daughter, Tracy, 61, from his first marriage.) At presstime, Nick had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and faces life in prison.

Eerily, in 2015, Nick had called himself “lucky” for having parents who cared about him, saying it made him feel guilty when he did drugs because, he said, “They’re thinking about me now. They want me to do good.”
