Call it what you want, but people across the world idolize Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship — and Cambridge Dictionary has a word for that!
It was recently revealed that Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year is “parasocial,” and it is partly attributed to the A-list couple whose relationship has taken the world by storm.
According to a new release on the Cambridge website, “interest in one-sided parasocial relationships that people form with celebrities, influencers and AI chatbots has driven Cambridge Dictionary’s Word of the Year for 2025.”
“Millions of fans related to Taylor Swift’s confessional lyrics about dating, heartbreak and desire, leading to what psychologists describe as ‘parasocial’ bonds with stars,” the post read. “When Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announced their engagement, many fans felt a deep connection to the singer and American footballer, even though most had never met them.”

Additionally, the new release explained that fans form these parasocial relationships with podcasters, and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, is, of course, cohost of the New Heights podcast.
“The spontaneity, imperfection and confessional nature of podcast hosts have been said to replace real friends and to catalyse parasocial relationships,” the post stated.
As Star previously reported, the pop star, 35, and the Super Bowl champion announced their engagement with the world in August via a joint Instagram post which read, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨.”
Fans immediately went wild online, sharing their reactions on X.
“Crying happy tears for our girl! I crazily ran around the house after seeing her post,” one person wrote. “I think I scared my cat a little!”
“SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP,” someone else posted on the platform.
“You don’t understand. I am soooooooo happy. Happy is a small word,” a third shared.
