While Kelly Clarkson has admitted that she “likes things tidy,” she’s not as extreme when it comes to organization as her fellow American Idol alum Clay Aiken.

On the Wednesday, June 4, episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, Norman Reedus appeared as a guest alongside Ian McShane and Ana de Armas to promote their new film, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina.

The Walking Dead alum, 56, said he likes to keep his refrigerator meticulously organized, which sparked a memory for the singer.

“Oh, I have a friend like you that I used to mess with,” Clarkson, 43, recalled. “He looked like a serial killer with his refrigerator. It was Clay Aiken. He was on Idol, the same show I came from, and I went to his house, and I was like, ‘The hell?’ He had everything so [organized].”

The three-time Grammy Award winner admitted she would fiddle with Aiken’s fridge. “Just to f**k with him, I just moved everything, and it did mess him up,” she remarked. “It did look like a serial killer lived there, how his refrigerator looked.”

In an article published on Thursday, June 5, Aiken gave a statement to Entertainment Weekly confessing to his obsessive organizational system.

“It’s true. I used to be a bit intense about the organization of my precious perishables,” he shared. “Thankfully, my dear friend, Kelly, helped cure me of this obsession by regularly breaking into my house while I was out of town and completely dismantling my fridge organization system!”

It looks like Clarkson did some good by jumping into action. “Thanks to her (less than legal) efforts, I’m happy to say I’m cured, and my fridge today looks like an episode of Hoarders,” he explained. “I didn’t even realize excessive kitchen organization was a gateway to serial killing, just think of how many lives Kelly may have saved!”

In December 2024, Aiken, 46, appeared on Clarkson’s talk show and discussed the fridge fiasco.

“You used to break into my house, remember, and rearrange my refrigerator,” he recalled.

“That’s because your refrigerator, I remember, looked like a serial killer,” Clarkson answered. “You had everything lined up, and I would just go in and slightly nudge.”

However, Aiken believed she took the rearranging too far. “You were moving stuff around! My milk was in the pantry!” he exclaimed, but Clarkson only doubled down on her past actions, insisting, “Because it looked crazy, man!”
