Carrie Underwood may be a country superstar, but she is also all about homesteading.
On Tuesday, June 10, the singer-songwriter, 42, took to Instagram to let her 13 million followers know she spent the weekend preserving her food through a method known as canning. The American Idol winner shared a photo of approximately 40 filled mason jars on her dining table in her Franklin, Tennessee home.
“My boys were away for the weekend so I decided to get rid of some of the stuff that was in the big freezer,” Underwood explained in her caption. “Canning is the perfect way to make use of everything and save myself some time later on when I need a quick meal!”
“I put about 35 (??) ish pheasants into some soup and pot pie filling, got rid of some of last year’s black and blueberries and made some cobbler filling and tried to do something with all the plums we’ve got growing here,” she added. “Not sure if I made jam or plum butter or some sort of sauce out of it, but I’ll figure out something to do with it! I feel accomplished!!! Yay me!”
Fans filled the comment section with praise for Underwood and her hard work.
One fan wrote, “Can’t take the country out of the girl. Thank you for being you and for sharing. ❤️🙌.”
“We need a Carrie Underwood cookbook 🙌❤️,” a second fan commented.
“Carrie! I’m so proud of you! It’s nice to see high-profile people are just regular people!😘,” a third fan penned.
“Carrie, this is why you will always be my favorite,” a fourth fan gushed. “No matter how much fame, you are so down to earth. ❤️.”
Underwood lives on a 400-acre farm with her husband, former NHL player Mike Fisher — whom she wed in 2010 — and their two sons, Isaiah, 10, and Jacob, 6.
The “Before He Cheats” hitmaker has shared many glimpses of farm life on social media, which includes growing her fruits and vegetables and taking care of her sheep.
Last week, Underwood made an Instagram post detailing an encounter she had with an unwanted visitor on her property.
“I went down to the orchard to feed Sugar and the sheep and thought I’d check to see if the pink lemonade blueberries were almost ready,” she recalled in the post’s caption. “I was on the next-to-last bush when I thought I’d pray. I love praying out loud in the orchard…it’s so beautiful and peaceful…I was about 15 seconds into my chat when I was surprised by a snake in the blueberry bush. Just a rat snake…nothing dangerous.”
“It obviously made me think…about God…about the devil,” she added. “The devil is always there…watching…lurking…even when we feel at our closest with God.”
