They added that Spears, 44, “started falling back into old habits” after her conservatorship ended and she no longer had to submit to regular drug testing.
“She’s been privately struggling with it for two to three years now,” the source continued.
A separate source told the publication that the “Toxic” singer’s troubles were amplified when she began spending extended amounts of time in Mexico. Spears celebrated her last two birthdays there and at one point, in a video shared to Instagram, she claimed she was moving there to avoid the paparazzi.
“That environment wasn’t good for her,” the second source explained. “She had access to all kinds of pills, and there wasn’t anyone really keeping things in check.”

A third source added that Mexico wasn’t “a safe place” for Spears because there was “a lot of access to over-the-counter things.”
“Who knows what she is getting and how it’s making her act,” the source told Us Weekly.
Another insider told the outlet that the Crossroads star was “going to the pharmacy there for pills, including Adderall, because it’s more accessible than in the States.”
As Star previously reported, Spears was arrested on March 4 for driving under the influence in Ventura, California.
“This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable. Britney is going to take the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life,” a representative for the Grammy winner told Star at the time. “Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.”
