“I’m embracing myself in this new decade in a way that I wondered if I’d be able to when I was a little younger,” Amanda Seyfried told Net-a-Porter of turning 40 in December. “I kind of value myself a little differently in that, wow, I got here and I’m doing OK.”
Aging is usually fraught for actresses, but Amanda’s finding her power. Nina, the posh-mom-with-a-secret she plays in The Housemaid, is a long way from her life on an upstate New York farm with husband of nine years, Thomas Sadoski, and their two young kids — which is why the actress embraced the thriller.

Exploring Nina’s rage was eye-opening, she said. “Playing characters like this, I’m like, wow, you don’t have to be desperate to feel rage. You can just be honest.” Another gift of maturing, she added, is becoming less hung up on what others think. “I don’t feel like I have anything to prove to Hollywood anymore — to my peers or the industry.”
