The former friends’ feud went public earlier this year, when the 25-year-old singer explained that her song “Bad Blood” was about her relationship with an unnamed, fellow female artist. “[Last year] she did something so horrible. I was like, ‘Oh we’re just straight-up enemies!'” the “Blank Space” songstress explained. “And it wasn’t even about a guy! It had to do with business. She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me.”
Shortly after, it was revealed that the “Teenage Dream” singer asked former backup dancers to join her show…after they were already on Taylor’s tour!
Neither star has publicly bashed the other by name, but in a recent interview with Billboard, Katy made it pretty clear that she wasn’t going to let her nemesis get away with bad-mouthing her. “If somebody is trying to defame my character, you’re going to hear about it,” she told the mag.
Just days after the Billboard article came out, the 30-year-old’s newly-released interview in Elle tells a bit of a different story. “As pop figures, we’re all characters,” she said. “And the media uses that. Who is the sweetheart, who is the villain? You know. Taylor’s the sweetheart. Kanye [West] is the villain. That’s the narrative.”
Katy may just be using a well-known example to get her point across…but her choice is definitely interesting considering her personal beef with Taylor. In fact, after Taylor revealed the inspiration behind “Bad Blood” last year, Katy tweeted, “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing…”
Make up your mind, girl!
