When A Superstar Wife Outshines Her Husband: Insights Into Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban Breakup

When news recently broke that Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban split after 19 years together, many people didn’t see it coming, but celebrity matchmaker Susan Trombetti says the cause of their divorce is likely just an old cliché.

“At the end of the day, it seems to be the cliché of the classic career woman overshadowing him, and his ego couldnt handle her stardom,” says Trombetti, relationship expert and CEO of Exclusive Matchmaking. She says it would have been more predictable if they had broken up years ago.

“They didnt break up years ago right after they were married, and he went to rehab. It proves her commitment and devotion to this man,” she said. Trombetti believes she has a theory for why they’re divorcing now after all these years.

“Keith Urban was definitely upset when the media interviewed him and asked more about Nicole than his work. Its very emasculating and he must have felt overshadowed,” she said of the country music star. 

“In the beginning of their marriage, she was there and dedicated her life to him and the kids. As the kids grew up, like most working moms, she returned to work — only she wasnt like most moms. Shes a global superstar and that would take her away for a long time. This has to be hard on a marriage, especially if he was on tour,” she said.

“Maybe he had an affair to validate his ego or maybe he didnt. Maybe they grew apart because he didnt like it when she wasnt around. Whatever happened, one thing is for sure; she helped him turn his life around years ago, and they seemed devoted until he wasnt,” she said.

“As a matchmaker, when someone shuts you down cold and closes the door the way he did, they are done — at least for now. It appears Tom Cruise did exactly the same, which is a bit of a coincidence. I wouldnt be surprised if he circled back a little too late, especially if he is involved with his guitarist. I am certain we will never know if he comes back begging for forgiveness,” Trombetti said.

“Power imbalances and festering career resentments probably took their toll on another Hollywood marriage,” she said, “but Nicole sure seems to be handling it well.”
