Prince William went through a difficult time after his father, King Charles III, and wife, Princess Kate, were diagnosed with cancer.
“You maybe think to yourself, ‘It won’t happen to us, we’ll be okay.’ Because I think everyone has a positive outlook, you’ve got to be positive. But when it does happen to you, then it takes you into some pretty not great places,” the Prince of Wales, 43, shared in a teaser for the upcoming episode of The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, per People.
William also reflected on how his grandparents’ long lives gave him a false sense of security about his family’s health.

“We’ve been very lucky; we hadn’t had many illnesses in the family for a very long time. My grandparents lived until they were in the high 90s,” he explained, according to People.
Prince Philip died in 2021 at the age of 99, while Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022 at 96.
“They were the vision of fitness, and stoicism, and resilience, if you like,” added William, “So we’ve been very lucky as a family.”
Charles, 76, shared his cancer diagnosis with the world in February 2024, and about a month later, in March 2024, the Princess of Wales, 43, announced she also had cancer. However, Charles and Kate were careful not to reveal what type of cancer they each had.
