Prince William and Princess Kate are doing their best to insulate Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, from the scandal surrounding Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, a source tells Star.
“Kate is very mindful of how much they hear and see but they are aware that their great-uncle has been caught up in some serious and unfortunate matters,” reveals the source, adding that she and William, 43, are “trying to protect them from the more sordid details.”
On Thursday, February 19, the former Duke of York, 66 — who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing — was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office following allegations that he shared confidential information with Jeffrey Epstein while working as a British trade envoy.
“It’s impossible to totally shield them. George and Charlotte are at an age where their friends at school are talking about it, so they do need to address it,” says the source. “The big emphasis is on how important it is for the kids to handle this with diplomacy … They can’t act like regular kids.”

Kate, 44, and William’s children have also “picked up on” the growing calls for King Charles III to abdicate and let the Waleses rule following Andrew’s arrest, adds the source.
“There’s definitely a growing sense of excitement around William and Kate and their coming reign,” the source says. “Everywhere they go, people tell them the country will be so much better off when they’re in charge.”
Such a decision would mean George and his siblings would move up the line of succession.
“They have a duty to the crown and Kate is raising them to be very aware of that,” explains the source. “In the next few years, they will be stepping into bigger roles, when their parents take the throne, they’re being prepped for that every day.”
