Kelly Ripa and husband Mark Consuelos dropped off their second child and only daughter Lola off at college last month. Now, the Live With Kelly and Ryan host is opening up about the surprising emotions she and her family felt at letting the 18-year-old go.

Kelly had expected that she and Mark might get emotional, but she was surprised by how much the move impacted her two youngest children, who are only 20 months apart.

“We moved Lola into her dorm and it’s one of those things that you don’t realize how close [the kids are],” Kelly explained. “The younger two are really close in age. Like, I didn’t even know I was pregnant with the third one because I was still nursing the second one!”

“I just assumed that, you know, I was just gaining weight from nursing. I was that one person who was gaining weight from nursing,” she reminisced. “So they really are very, very close and I didn’t realize how close they were until it was time to say goodbye.”

She shared photos with the audience of Lola in her new room, which she called “so tiny.” She also showed a pic of an “overwhelmed” Joaquin sleeping on his sister’s bed.

“There weren’t real tears but there were lots of ‘Don’t think I’m gonna be home before Thanksgiving because I’m not. I’m not gonna be home before Thanksgiving. You won’t see me before Thanksgiving,'” she said, teasing her daughter.

“To that, I said, ‘I’ll see you in four hours when you come home because you don’t know how to use the washing machine!'” she joked.
