Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber’s Protective Parenting Influenced Kaia’s Love Life Again
There are helicopter parents, and then there’s Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber. An insider tells Star that Kaia Gerber’s recent split from Austin Butler has her parents’ fingerprints all over it.
“Cindy and Rande have always taken a very big interest in whom Kaia is dating,” says the insider. “They’re super protective.” The insider adds that the pair butted in after Kaia, 23, had been dating the Oscar nominee, 33, for two years with no progress. When the Elvis star seemed more concerned with his career than his relationship, they urged their daughter to move on.
While Kaia is “grateful” for her parents’ concern, says the insider, “she also finds them pretty intense and overbearing at times.” Still, she can’t fault their instincts. Alarmed when the then-18-year-old was dating troubled comedian Pete Davidson, then 26, in 2019, the supermodel and the tequila mogul forcefully interfered. “They swooped in and rescued her from a dysfunctional relationship,” notes the insider. “They’re definitely doing it from a place of love.”
