Ed Sheeran may have taken the ‘go big or go home’ phrase a little too seriously.
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer isn’t a stranger to the tattoo parlor (from his other ink shown on his arms), but this one could be his last after how painful this one was, which the British singer used the word “ouch” in his Tuesday Instagram caption. But hang in there, Sheeran—his lion tattoo is only halfway done at this point, according to him.
After selling out his Wembley gigs, the 24-year-old singer decided to get the lion tattoo in memory of those 290,000 fans he’s played in front of so far there—which the lion happens to be England’s football team’s logo. Before he settled on the big cat, the British star told BBC: “I was going to get the floor plan tattooed on my side, but that seemed a bit ridiculous… It’s going to hurt.” But pain shouldn’t have been a deciding factor, since apparently the lion inked across his chest probably hurt just as much.

Sheeran sent a shout-out to his tattoo artist, Kevin Paul, who was most likely dealing with the agonizing sounds from the singer/songwriter. Paul is also recognized for creating tattoos on other A-listers like Harry Styles.

Looks like this singer definitely got bit by the tattoo bug—so much that he even has a a tat of the word ‘Red’ on his arm to remember when bestie Taylor Swift and him collaborated together on her Red album.
