She’s got shelves full of Grammy Awards and a hot new album that’s smashing record sales, but there’s one thing Taylor Swift wants that she doesn’t have — Chris Martin! Although the singer’s rep denies it, Star has learned that Taylor has a massive crush on the Coldplay frontman.
Despite Chris’ on-off relationship with Jennifer Lawrence, the 24-year-old is waging a covert campaign to win his heart. “Taylor would love to make Chris her new boyfriend,” an insider reveals. “She’s taking advantage of how Jen’s and Chris’ busy schedules are keeping them apart. She can sense their relationship is on shaky ground, so she’s moving in — fast.”
Taylor has known Chris for years — she dined with him and Gwyneth Paltrow back in 2012 — but, now that he’s “consciously uncoupled,” she’s started showing her long-hidden feelings. In fact, the “Shake It Off” singer’s decision to join The Voice as an advisor was based in part on the fact that Chris had mentored on the show in the past. “Taylor sent Chris a handwritten note on her stationary, asking him about The Voice,” the insider reveals.
Before long, the pair were emailing back and forth, the content of those emails becoming more and more flirtatious as Taylor flattered Chris about his music and queried him about “the single life.” Says the insider, “Taylor pretends like she’s very prim and proper, but she knows how to work a man.”
The insider adds that Chris is enjoying the attention and is “blown away by Taylor’s maturity and wit,” he isn’t exactly a free man. Even though it was widely reported on Oct. 27 that he and Jennifer had split, the Hunger Games star has been spotted at Chris’s Malibu home several times since, and insiders say their romance is far from over.
But Taylor doesn’t care — she feels no loyalty to J.Law, whom sources say she doesn’t even particularly like. Though the Oscar winner tried to break the ice with Taylor by photobombing her red carpet interview at the 2014 Golden Globes, Taylor was clearly not amused, and Jennifer’s plan backfired.
And as much as her casual friendship with Gwyneth kept her from hitting on Chris in the past, Taylor’s rivalry with Jennifer — whose red-hot movie career rivals Taylor’s music success — could make Chris an even more appealing prize now.
Beyond any competition, though, Taylor has been dateless for 18 months and is ready for a new romance. “Chris is mature, successful…exactly what Taylor has been holding out for,” the source says. “She’s having fun flirting with him and really hopes that it goes further.”
