Things are already getting ugly in Bethenny Frankel’s custody battle with her estranged husband, Jason Hoppy. The reality star filed for divorce in January 2013, and is currently seeking primary custody and sole-decision making for the exes’ 4-year-old daughter, Bryn. Meanwhile, Jason is hoping for shared custody.
The Skinnygirl mogul’s lawyer, Allan Mayefsky, started things off in court on Wednesday, with opening statements that bashed Bethenny’s ex. “He threatened to destroy her,” the attorney said. “He had her followed and spied on along with their daughter. He hacked into her most private personal e-mail.”
Allan also said that Jason has “consciously placed his desire for revenge over the best interests of this family and particularly the child.” But the single dad’s own lawyer, Bernard Clair, fought back, telling the court that Bethenny had the same desire for revenge, and proved it when she moved out of the family’s home earlier this year, and stripped it of all Bryn’s things.
“The clothes were gone, the favorite stuffed animals gone, the dollhouse gone,” he recounted, criticizing Bethenny for “using the child as a prop…in the pursuit of her own career and own brand.”
Afterward, the former reality star took the stand herself, and discussed what her relationship with Jason was like, including what it meant to spend so much time in front of TV cameras.
The battle continues…
