There’ll be a lot of changes coming to Glee this season with the absence of Cory Monteith, but at the same time, the show will be getting some new, anticipated characters. One of those is Demi Lovato, who will be appearing in a multi-episode arc beginning in Season 5’s second episode.
At first, it was rumored that the 21-year-old would just be playing a friend of Lea Michele’s character in New York City, but now, Naya Rivera reveals she’ll actually have a more prominent role. “She’s playing my love interest, so I’m very, very excited about that,” the actress revealed. “We get to sing a song together. It’s going to be good. I’m excited to work with her.”
Now that Heather Morris, who previously played Naya’s love interest on the show, won’t be returning as a series regular, it’s about time that Santana gets a new lady to lust after! But don’t worry, her bad-girl persona will still be in full effect. “We’re bringing [Demi] to the dark side,” she admitted.
The “Heart Attack” singer’s first appearance will be in the second of two Beatle’s tribute episodes, and the girls’ first song is rumored to be “Here Comes the Sun.” Like Naya, Demi has also expressed excitement over her upcoming work. “I can’t believe I’m going back to acting but the best part about it is that I get to act/sing with some of my really great friends,” she wrote on Twitter.
The third episode of the season will address the death of Cory’s character, Finn, although the audience will not learn the cause of his passing. The episode is said to be very emotional from start to finish, with the late actor’s real-life girlfriend, Lea, appearing for a short, but powerful, scene.
