Demi Lovato is currently dealing with some issues in her personal life, with the passing of her estranger father Patrick Lovato over the weekend. However, the singer is staying true to her album-promoting duties and showed up to her Good Morning America interview with Robin Roberts on Thursday.
During the interview, the 20-year-old showed her complete maturity by remaining composed and honest while speaking about her dad. She admitted the week has been difficult, but she’s doing okay. “My dad and I didn’t have the most ideal relationship, but at the end of the day, he’s still my dad,” she admits.
Demi added that she is a “firm believer that everything happens for a reason,” so she’s turning her father’s untimely death into something positive. Because, like Demi herself, Patrick suffered from mental illness, the singer is starting the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program, where she’ll help one mental illness patient at a time pay for their treatment.
Meanwhile, Demi will be keeping busy, with a performance on GMA tomorrow. Plus, her new single “Made in the USA” hits radio today, and soon enough she’ll be back in her judges seat for The X-Factor! Check out what else she had to say about her dad in the video interview:
