‘It’s Called Fate’

WATCH: Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi Reveals Adoption Story, Plans To Find Birth Parents

The ‘Jersey Shore’ star tells all in new, candid vlog.

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is best known as a fireball Italian-American, but fans might remember she’s actually adopted from Chile. In a video she posted on Thursday July 5, the mother of two shared her adoption story, what it was like growing up in Upstate New York, and her plans for tracking down her birth family. Watch the video above to hear the first part of her story.

Snooki explained in her vlog that though people often ask about her adoption story on social media, she’s been hesitant to talk about it publicly. “I don’t really talk about it because I always felt my family’s my family,” she said. Nicole is an only child, with two parents she clearly loves very much.

But, as she grew up, she had more questions about her birth family. “I thought about it once I started to get older. ‘What does my mom look like? What does my dad look like?’”

Snooki’s parents never had to tell her she was adopted. She explained, “I knew, we don’t look alike. I’m brown, you’re white. This doesn’t make sense but I always knew in my heart that I was adopted and I was totally fine with it.” Snooki’s parents didn’t want to talk about the story with her for a long time, but she eventually convinced them to open up about the details.

Nicole was adopted at six months old. According to her adopted parents, her birth parents had two other children and couldn’t afford their newest arrival. She got emotional describing her birth parents’ choice. “I could never imagine how they felt giving me up, but thank you for that.”

When she was growing up in upstate New York, she often imagined what it would be like to have family members who looked like her. “Once I had kids that kind of filled that void,” she explained. But she’s still curious to meet her birth family. “I’m definitely interested,” she said a few times in the video.

If she does schedule a reunion, though, there might be a few snags. “I took Spanish for three years and I failed every time,” she explained with a laugh. “So if I did meet them I’d have to use an interpreter.”

Snooki closed the video wondering what life would be like if she hadn’t been adopted.

“Would I still be a hot mess like this, just in Spanish?” she asked, then answered. “Probably!”

But she has no regrets. “Things just work out that way. It’s called fate.”
