‘Top Gun 3’ Officially Confirmed to Be Heading to Theaters With Tom Cruise Reprising His Role
Top Gun 3 is officially confirmed with Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer reuniting. A script is underway as the blockbuster franchise continues after Mavericks 1.5B success.
It’s time to find your aviator sunglasses once again as the third installment of Top Gun has officially been confirmed.
“Top Gun 3 is officially in development with a script well underway, reuniting Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer,” Josh Greenstein, co-chair at Paramount Pictures, announced at Cinemacon on Thursday, April 16, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Cruise, 63, starred in the original Top Gun in 1986 alongside other stars like the late Val Kilmer and Anthony Edwards. The movie went on to become a huge hit and in 2022, Cruise reprised his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in Top Gun: Maverick, with Miles Tellerand Glen Powell.

Maverick went on to earn around $1.5 billion globally, which was a huge feat after the movie industry suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic. The movie’s huge success led to Steven Spielberg giving Cruise credit for saving Hollywood.
“You saved Hollywood’s ass and you might have saved theatrical distribution,” the Jaws director told Cruise in a video originally shared on Instagram by director Kartiki Gonsalves in 2023, per Variety.

“Seriously, Top Gun: Maverick might have saved the entire theatrical industry,” Spielberg added.
While there’s no word on when the next Top Gun film will hit the big screen, the movie itself has been underway for some time. Ehren Kruger, who was one of the cowriters on Maverick, was tapped to write the script for the third movie approximately two years ago.
