Todd Chrisley Says He Thought About ‘Going Back’ To Prison After Seeing Wife Julie’s Hair: ‘Rough Moment’

Todd Chrisley prefers blondes over brunettes — even when it comes to his wife Julie Chrisley.

On the Wednesday, July 23, episode of the couple’s Chrisley Confessions podcast, the Chrisley family patriarch, 56, revealed he was unhappy with the 52-year-old reality TV star’s brown hair when the two reunited following their respective time behind bars.

“I’m not going to lie. When I first saw you when I got out of that car, I started thinking about going back,” Todd admitted. “It was a rough moment because I had never seen you dark in my life. Julie, 30 years, I’ve never seen you with dark hair.”

Julie’s hair became a topic of conversation on the podcast as she first recalled a “horrible picture” of herself that had circulated after she left prison in May. However, Julie said the photo worked in her favor because people now think she looks “even better.”

Todd chimed in, saying, “I will say, you set the bar low, you had to go nowhere but up.”

“Now that wasn’t very nice,” Julie quipped, to which Todd responded, “I’m just trying to be honest. That’s why we have ‘Chrisley Confessions 2.0.’”

Julie agreed with her hubby about the color being unflattering, but said she “didn’t have any choice” before explaining what led to her hair transformation.

“When I went to prison, my hair was blonde, but it had a lot of low lights in it,” Julie shared. “We actually had a girl that was there at the prison when I got there. Her name was Melissa, she worked in the salon, and she was really good, and she did highlights for me.”

However, Julie said Melissa only did her hair one time because she was released in March 2023. After that she was forced to rely on box dye that she bought in the prison commissary.

“So I started growing out, and it was so gray, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, what am I going to do?'” she recounted. “So I just put the brown on my hair to cover up the gray.”

Julie shared she had rocked the darker ’do for “probably a year and a half or so,” but then decided she didn’t want to color her hair anymore, as she thought she wouldn’t be leaving prison until August 2026.

Julie also confessed that even her fellow inmates told her she should stick to blonde hair, but that it was “really hard to be good blonde in prison.”

The two Chrisley Knows Best stars were both granted full pardons by President Donald Trump on May 27. The husband-and-wife duo were convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud in 2022. Todd was serving a 12-year sentence at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida, while Julie was serving a seven-year sentence at Kentucky’s Federal Medical Center, Lexington.
