Tia Mowry Dishes on Babysitting Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen with Twin Sister Tamera on ‘Full House’ Set

Tia and Tamera Mowry are largely known as one of the most recognizable sets of twins from the ’90s — but they also served as babysitters to another set of famous siblings.

On Tuesday, June 24, Tia, 46, posted an Instagram Carousel looking back on her and Tamera’s humble beginnings.

“A lot of people think our journey to Sister, Sister was easy… but trust me, it was far from it. As kids, we faced a lot of heartache and uncertainty,” Tia admitted in the caption. “But every challenge taught me something. It shaped my faith, my resilience, and prepared me for everything that came after. I wouldn’t change a thing.”

In the post, the Twitches actress explained that, before they were actresses with their own sitcom, she and Tamera, also 46, would accompany their mom and younger brother, Tahj Mowry, to the Full House set because Tahj was cast as Michelle Tanner’s friend, Teddy. (Michelle was famously portrayed by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.)

“Since my mom didn’t have a sitter, she brought me and Tamera with her,” the mom of two — who shares son Cree, 13, and daughter Cairo, 7, with ex-husband Cory Hardrict — wrote to accompany a photo of Tahj and one of the Olsen twins. “We would sit in the audience while they filmed.”

“They had us babysit Mary Kate and Ashley on set. The crew would have us play with Mary Kate and Ashley between takes,” Tia continued in another slide. “Everyone thought it was the cutest thing. Twin girls watching over twin girls.”

Ultimately, Tia and Tamera were promoted from babysitters to actors as they both made guest appearances on Full House as Denise in one episode titled “The Devil Made Me Do It” in 1992.

Tia’s post continued to explain that she and Tamara were later discovered by Suzanne de Passe who introduced the sisters to Kim Bass, who wrote Sister, Sister, based on the siblings.

In March, Tahj appeared on How Rude, Tanneritos!, a podcast hosted by Full House alums Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber. Barber, 48 — who played Kimmy Gibbler — asked him if it was “confusing” at his “age to see the Olsen twins switching off the role of Michelle.”

Tahj admitted he was unfazed by it, considering his siblings. “Obviously, my sisters are twins, so in that aspect, I was like, ‘Oh, okay. Yeah. That makes sense. There’s two of them. They split the work,'” he recalled. “I understood that. I was never like, ‘Huh?’”

“I think having twin sisters at home … it made it make more sense to me, maybe,” he added.
